Future Salesian Priests Express Gratitude

Hot water, functioning bathrooms, and safe living spaces may seem simple, but for the seminarians at Don Bosco Utume, Kenya, these improvements have been a blessing. For years, deteriorating infrastructure created daily challenges, but today, students can focus on their spiritual growth in a clean and dignified environment.

Your generosity helped make these long overdue renovations possible – improving the living conditions for 215 residents, including over 190 seminarians from several African countries. These seminarians are dedicating their lives to the Salesian priesthood so they can one day serve communities across Africa. But without proper facilities, focusing on their mission was becoming increasingly difficult.

Now, these aspiring priests are living in a safer, cleaner and more functional environment designed to support their daily formation. Aging plumbing systems were replaced with modern piping that restored reliable water access and eliminated ongoing leaks. Bathrooms were completely rebuilt with updated sinks, showers, toilets and fixtures that greatly improved hygiene and functionality. A new solar-powered water heating system now provides dependable hot water while promoting sustainable energy use. In addition, communal restrooms were refurbished, drainage systems were upgraded, and student rooms were repaired and restored.

A well-maintained environment does more than improve daily living conditions. It allows students to focus on their education and spiritual growth without the constant challenges caused by failing infrastructure. Because of these renovations, seminarians at Don Bosco Utume are now better equipped to prepare for their journey dedicated to serving young people and communities across Africa.

“Providing a safe and stable environment is an essential part of preparing our future Salesian priests,” says Father Michael Conway, Director of Salesian Missions. “These renovations are creating spaces where seminarians can focus on their calling to serve others. They are deeply grateful to our donors who are supporting their meaningful journey.”
