A New “Village” Where At-Risk Kids Can Thrive

Around the world, vulnerable youth face circumstances that no child should have to endure. For many, it’s a short journey to go from being ‘at risk’ to experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, drug use, and exposure to sex trafficking and underage work abuses. That’s why Salesian Lakou Bosco in Guadeloupe provides vital support for these children, guiding them on a path toward greater self-sufficiency and brighter futures.

Salesian Lakou Bosco has been a beacon of hope for youth and their families for the past five years. Our missionaries provide the community with educational and social activities to help them become independent, productive members of society.

Now, thanks to caring friends like you, the organization is expanding — creating a new area called the Lakou Bosco Village. This new space will consist of a fully-equipped building, which includes a kitchen, living room, playroom, multi-purpose rooms, workshop, and other educational spaces, as well as a sports field and a park for outdoor activities.

The expansion will also include personal development programs for young people. One key focus will be the respectful use of social media, which has been a growing challenge.

“Lakou Bosco takes its inspiration from the spirit of its name, based on the Creole language meaning mutual aid, fraternity and respect,” explains Father Michael Conway, Director of Salesian Missions. “They use these three pillars to frame the services provided to youth and families within its outreach.”

Once the Village is complete, it will provide more vital services to this impoverished community. And it will greatly improve the opportunities for at-risk kids to thrive – through education, recreation, socialization and skills-building.

Our mission is to provide support and instill strong values among at-risk kids so they can develop into caring, responsible and productive members of society. What’s your mission?
