Hope for Families Affected by War
Families impacted by the war in Lebanon* are receiving vital assistance to help provide relief from the chaos and suffering surrounding them. Thanks to your generosity, we’re delivering nutritious food, clean water, safe shelter and other essential supplies to those who have already lost so much.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR), more than 115,000 people remained displaced at the beginning of this year. The war has caused a significant shortage of goods which has only worsened over time. And if that wasn’t enough, the country is still grappling with the 1.5 million refugees who have fled the ongoing civil war in neighboring Syria.
Most recently, the Salesian project called “Emergency assistance for Fidar and Hossoun communities and refugees in Beirut” has been providing children and families with medical assistance, psychosocial support, food supplies, fuel vouchers, and warm clothing.
Those who were chosen to take part in the project were families whose children already attend local Salesian centers and schools, including Don Bosco Technique, Don Bosco Hossoun, and Angels of Peace School.
“It’s very difficult to choose among those who are suffering,” states Father Michael Conway, Director of Salesian Missions. “The best we can do is focus on the children who are attending school and try to continue to stabilize their lives by providing the goods and services they desperately need. We will continue to help as many people as possible.”
This emergency assistance project is the result of a coordinated effort between various Salesian schools and programs in the region. Although many more families need help, the project has already made a comprehensive and profound impact, despite the dire circumstances.
Our mission is to help children and families in crisis as the result of war and violence. What’s your mission?
