Haiti: A Dream to Build a School for the Children

Donate to Build Haiti Schools

When Giancarlo Oderda learned of the plight of Haiti’s children following the devastating earthquake in 2010, he was moved to act.

Even before the earthquake, Haiti was one of the poorest countries in the world — where widespread unemployment, homelessness, and lack of clean water were daily realities. The disaster only worsened the blow for an entire generation of girls and boys already facing a future with little hope.

Recognizing his own good fortune and the opportunities he’s been granted, Giancarlo is wishing to leave behind a meaningful legacy. “My goal is to build a school where young people can learn the skills that will allow them to become independent and released from poverty,” he says.

The school is located in the impoverished village of Bergeau (Les Cayes), where Salesian missionaries already run a vocational training center for older youth. Giancarlo has partnered with the Salesians to coordinate the school construction due to their long history of service in Haiti since 1936.

With your support today, he can succeed.

Thanks to his own generosity, Giancarlo has underwritten four of nine classrooms. Today he is appealing to the kindness of other caring friends like you to help complete the final five. At the conclusion of the project, which also includes a laboratory, library and infirmary, 360 children ages 6-15 will take their steps on the path toward a brighter future.

Please help make this dream a reality and give what you can today.
