Clean Water is Saving Lives

Around the world, over 2 billion people are in need of clean water. Without it, precious lives – including millions of children – are vulnerable to preventable illnesses and even death. That’s why your support of our Clean Water Initiative is so important. And it’s making a huge difference.

“We know firsthand that education is one of the most effective ways we can lift impoverished children out of poverty and give them hope for brighter futures,” explains Fr. Michael Conway, Director of Salesian Missions. “However, for any child to thrive, their basic needs must first be met – and clean water is essential.”

Since its inception, our Clean Water Initiative has funded dozens of projects, from drilling wells and constructing storage tanks, to building bathrooms and shower facilities that promote hygiene and help stop the spread of diseases.

In South Sudan*, a civil war resulted in thousands of people being displaced from their villages. Upon their return, they found their homes destroyed, their communities devastated, and their water sources demolished. With your support, we were able to drill a borehole, dig a deep well, and install a hand pump. The project brought clean water directly to the community and saved villagers from having to walk miles to the nearest water station.

In Cambodia, we supplied the Don Bosco Technical School in Kep with accessible, clean water and bathroom facilities. The school specializes in helping disabled children at risk of exploitation, so when we received their plea for help, we rallied to do what was necessary to ensure their safety and well-being.

Our Clean Water Initiative makes it possible for us to respond where the need is greatest – bringing fresh, clean water to communities with limited resources. Each completed project brings us another step forward in our efforts to build sustainable communities and save precious lives.
