Misinformation and fear often make it more difficult for families to seek treatment or take the precautions needed to protect themselves. By providing trusted guidance and practical resources, our Salesian missionaries are helping communities respond with confidence rather than fear.
Every day, thousands of children and their families attend Salesian schools, youth centers and outreach programs across the region for education, meals, medical care and other essential services. These centers have become important places for sharing life-saving information as our missionaries help communities understand how Ebola spreads, recognize its symptoms, and take practical steps to protect themselves.
In Goma, hand-washing stations have been installed throughout Salesian facilities, while hygiene campaigns and awareness initiatives encourage families to adopt simple preventive measures that can reduce the spread of disease. These efforts are especially important as people continue to travel between affected areas, increasing the risk of new infections. By promoting healthy habits and encouraging early action, our missionaries are helping protect not only individuals but entire communities.
