For many children and young people in Liberia, education is not a given. The chance to go to school and learn valuable skills is a distant dream for many, making it difficult to prepare for the future. They need more than just hope … they need opportunities to help them succeed.
The challenges are significant. UNICEF reports that almost half of school-age children miss out on an education. Hundreds of thousands of impoverished youth lack access to school, which makes it increasingly difficult to break the cycle of poverty. Without the ability to gain an education, young people enter adulthood facing limited work opportunities and ongoing financial hardship.
Thankfully, generous partners like you are helping our missionaries change that trajectory. In Tappita, Liberia, the “Brighter Future” program provides vulnerable youth with vocational education designed to prepare them for employment and self-sufficiency. Students gain job skills that can translate into income, helping them achieve financial stability.
Salesians have served the people of Tappita since 1980, providing social development programs that improve lives and strengthen the surrounding community. Their vocational training efforts focus not simply on teaching a trade, but on helping young people become independent and self-sufficient.
“Cycles of poverty will not be broken overnight,” explains Father Michael Conway, Director of Salesian Missions. “But every opportunity we provide can positively alter the direction of a young person’s life. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, more disadvantaged youth can gain the skills and resources they need to pursue a better future.”
