Provide Career Counseling and Job Placement Services

Disadvantaged children and young adults attending schools in impoverished areas of India are often unaware of available career opportunities. Many drop out of school to work and support their families. This project will test their aptitudes, provide guidance to discover their interests, and explore career options for successful futures. It will also develop positive self-esteem, confidence and motivation to succeed.

This type of intervention program has been successful in a number of schools in other districts and involves interaction between students, parents, teachers and counselors.

Partial Funding Opportunities with Goal of 50 schools in 5 Districts of Tamil Nadu:

a. One-time start-up costs for equipment and storage expenses = $3,714.00

b. Career guidance on wheels: A traveling vehicle outfitted with audio-visual capability to bring regular career guidance awareness programs to schools in remote areas without proper classrooms or facilities = $43,286.00

c. Recurring monthly expenses: for project management, operating costs, bi-annual career fairs, and counselor and facilitator salaries in 5 districts = $59,714.00

This project is located at the Don Bosco Vazhikaatti Educational and Charitable Society in Tamil Nadu, India.

Total cost for one-time start-up costs; program vehicle; and monthly management and operating expenses = $106,714.00
