El Salvador: Donated Plane Delivers Hope

For the first time in company history, FedEx has donated a Boeing 727 aircraft to a Salesian university and Salesian Missions is proud to have helped make it happen. After a year of collaborative effort, this plane will now serve as a hands-on training tool for hundreds of students in El Salvador — putting into practice one of the key principles of Don Bosco.

EL SALVADOR: Salesian University Continues Training in Orthopedics in Support of Efforts in Haiti

SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR & PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI (July 11, 2012) The Salesian-run Don Bosco University in El Salvador plans to train 32 new professionals in various forms of prosthetic and orthotics, artificial limbs and other medical support and will place them in rehabilitation centers in Haiti. As ongoing support for those injured in the Haiti earthquake on Jan. 12, 2010, this training program was implemented in April 2011 and will continue through December 2014.

In El Salvador: Looking for an Escape

Antonio and Luis are inspiring examples of how the generosity of caring friends like you combines with the love and determination of Salesian missionaries like Father Jose Moratalla to turn lives around in a dramatic way. A recent Catholic News Service article, told their story.

Antonio was a typical 15-year-old in San Salvador, struggling to cope with the deplorable conditions and overwhelming despair that plagued his impoverished community. Looking for an escape, he was tempted by the influence of gangs, violence and drugs.

Salesian University Recognized for Leadership in Providing Children with Prosthetics

SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR (Dec. 22, 2011) – The first-ever World Report on Disabilitieshas recognized the University Don Bosco in San Salvador, El Salvador, for its leadership in prosthetic and orthotics education in Latin America and for providing opportunities for adults and children with disabilities. The 2011 report was produced jointly by the World Health Organization and the World Bank.
