Educational Opportunities for Youth in Venezuela

Turmoil in Venezuela* is forcing many of its citizens to seek asylum in neighboring countries. For those who remain, daily life is marked by harsh and unforgiving conditions. Poverty and hardship are constant realities and earning a living is incredibly difficult. But thanks to you, there’s hope for young people looking to gain valuable job skills.

Your gifts have made it possible for Salesian Missions to fund education and training opportunities at the Maria Auxiliadora Popular Technical School in Caracas. Nursing students are among those benefiting from newly purchased equipment, including anatomical models. As a result, these students will be better prepared to care for the sick and injured in their communities after graduation. Your support also made it possible for the school to add professional accounting and managerial programs, which are helping young people pursue careers in business administration.

“I’m grateful to our caring friends, whose support helps us provide the funding opportunities that make a big impact on the futures of so many impoverished youth,” says Father Michael Conway, Director of Salesians Missions. “The kindness you and others demonstrate provides hope where it’s desperately needed.”

Altogether, the improvements at Maria Auxiliadora have had a positive impact on 355 students. Additional funding was allocated for the adaptation of spaces for students to connect with the labor force under the supervision of specialist teachers.

Edilmar, a 17-year-old student at the school, took full advantage of the new accounting and management courses to secure early acceptance into an internship program. Her goal is to get a full-time job with the company, where she can earn a decent living to pay for higher education and support her mother in the future.
