A Surge of Abandoned Youth
The situation is dire. Growing wealth disparities and the high rate of people fleeing their homeland due to internal conflict have caused a surge in the number of abandoned children living on the streets in Nigeria.
“These vulnerable young victims face abuse, exploitation or worse. Without immediate intervention, the consequences for these children are harsh,” explains Father Michael Conway, Director of Salesian Missions. “That’s why our missionaries are hard at work, attempting to make a difference in their lives.”
The Bosco Boys Home in Ibadan is having a positive impact, one child at a time. The Home responds to the urgent needs of desperate youth by offering safe shelter, nutritious meals, and medical care. A team of dedicated social workers engages with the young people so they can heal from their trauma and begin to build their emotional strength.
Bosco Boys also provides education and training opportunities that enable youth to gain the knowledge and training they need to become productive members of their communities.
The comprehensive approach of education and protection offered at Bosco Boys equips its young residents with the tools they need to set small goals, develop their skills, and regain their confidence. This helps lay the groundwork for a journey of personal growth to guide them toward a better life.
