Expanded Opportunities in Madagascar

Imagine a country so poor that almost 19 million people live below the poverty line. And of those, 5.7 million are children. Homelessness, food instability, families struggling to survive, and an epidemic of child labor … the crisis seems overwhelming. But with you by our side, our missionaries in Madagascar are making a big impact.

Thanks to recent funding, new classrooms are being built at Don Bosco Mahajanga — opening doors to a brighter future for countless children. Our missionaries know firsthand that education provides the steppingstones to a better life. This project will enable the school to greatly expand its classroom capacity, giving more children the opportunity to learn, grow … and hopefully break the cycle of overwhelming poverty.

There are not enough schools in Madagascar to serve the number of students in need. That’s why doubling classroom capacity doesn’t just mean more space – it means twice as many young lives will be changed through education.

“School is integral for all youth,” says Father Michael Conway, Director of Salesian Missions. “When we see a need, we know we must provide a solution. With help from caring friends like you, we’re able to bring quality education to struggling young people.”

Don Bosco Mahajanga specializes in vocational training for students between the ages of 15 and 20. By teaching them practical job skills, these young people are prepared to enter the workforce with valuable qualifications — empowering them to build stable careers and earn a sustainable living. As the school continues to train students, it will build a competent workforce for the community that will eventually improve the economic conditions in the region.
