Our Clean Water Initiative Saves Precious Lives

It’s a global crisis. One in 11 people – that’s a total of 703 million worldwide – do not have access to clean water. Adults are getting sick – and children are dying – from preventable diseases simply because they’re consuming contaminated water. Our Clean Water Initiative was launched to tackle this issue, and to help communities live healthier lives, especially in remote regions.

Since its inception, our Clean Water Initiative has made an enormous impact and has greatly improved the well-being of struggling families.

In Nigeria, nearly 100 children at the Don Bosco Child Protection Center in Lagos, now have a safe way to quench their thirst thanks to the construction of a borehole and storage tank, along with repairs to an existing well. A similar project is providing clean water to Don Bosco Makululu in Zambia, a home for 1,500 children from impoverished areas with nowhere else to live.

“Whether it’s for clean water wells, water storage tanks, purification systems, water pumps, or sanitary bathrooms, our Clean Water Initiative enables us to respond to the urgent needs of our missionaries who are pleading for help to save their communities,” explains Father Michael Conway, Director of Salesian Missions. “It gives me great fulfillment whenever I can say ‘yes,’ knowing we have the backing of our generous donors and friends.”

With dozens of projects already completed – and more underway – our Clean Water Initiative has proven to be a life-enriching and life-saving effort that has eased the suffering for thousands of impoverished children and families.
