A small chapel in this Salesian village is in dire need of repair. The grass thatched roof was replaced with corrugated asbestos sheets which are rotting from many years of use. Aside from being hazardous, the structure is too small for the growing Catholic community. Immediate action is necessary to make it safe, and provide a suitable and inviting place to worship. The local community is ready to lend a hand in the construction and perform all unskilled labor jobs.

There is an immediate need for a new church in this local community. The existing church is approaching its Golden Jubilee and is in such poor condition that some parishioners are afraid to enter the building. Those who do, worry about the deteriorating wooden roof and many leaks. Catechism instruction no longer can place and there is not enough space to accommodate the growing number of worshipers.

The Don Bosco Technical Institute is a home and vocational training center for former street children. The center is constantly challenged by a very costly and highly unreliable source of electricity. The installation of a solar power system will provide reliable electricity for the machinery and equipment in classrooms, as well as for the home so students can study in the evening.

The Don Bosco Child Protection Center rescues street children who are victims of crime, abuse and poverty. This center offers the opportunity of a better life by providing compassion and support; medical care and counseling; safe shelter; and basic education and skills training to help give these youngsters HOPE for a brighter future.

The Cetpro Bosconia School is in a settlement made up mostly of migrant and displaced populations. Even before the COVID-19 lockdown, the school was preparing to help teachers provide virtual schooling. But without proper equipment and materials, disadvantaged students cannot participate in remote learning. 50 laptops will help them continue their education during these challenging times.

Young girls and women are most affected by unemployment in this region of Nigeria. The Salesians have developed a program to train young women in sewing and tailoring, provide them with an internship, and then provide support and supervision to help them start their own viable businesses. The first year plan is to include 20 girls in this  life-changing opportunity. The Salesians and local donors have raised half the funds needed to support the first year plan for this program.

Salesian missionaries have been helping Indigenous children and families in this extremely poor, remote area for over 70 years. They are in need of a replacement for the 4-wheel drive vehicle that has fallen into disrepair, which they frequently use to travel from village to village. A new vehicle will enable our missionaries to continue providing food, clean water and other essential supplies, especially now during the pandemic crisis.

Clean water is a scarcity in communities inhabited by poor farmers and peasant traders. They must travel long distances to get to the closest stream in the region, which has been deemed unhealthy for consumption. During the dry season, this stream dries up, leaving them without any water at all. This project will fund the drilling of a borehole, pipes, tank, stand and generator at each of three communities, which will benefit hundreds of families.

There are numerous opportunities to help fund this project. Please consider funding even just one of these life-saving, clean water wells:

This parish was established just a few years ago in an extremely desolate area without a connection to a water supply. Due to government restrictions, the community can no longer meet for religious services until an adequate water supply and sanitation services are built. Funding will provide the means to install a water supply tank and the pipes needed to connect to a nearby water source.
