The Salesian Sisters operate the Garden Open Community School in Lusaka, Zambia, serving vulnerable and underprivileged youth ages 2 to 20, from primary through secondary grades. In addition, the school offers vocational training in areas such as computer studies, hospitality, tailoring and culinary arts to both students as well as local community members. Located in a community heavily affected by frequent blackouts due to power outages, the school urgently needs a reliable source of electricity. Installing solar panels will ensure continuous power, significantly improve the learning environment, and enable essential programs to run uninterrupted. In addition, the project includes repainting nine classrooms which were originally built in 1993. This will help revitalize the school’s appearance, making it a cleaner, more welcoming place for students and community. The total cost to install solar panels and paint classrooms = $15,666.00

For decades, Madagascar has struggled with limited economic growth and widespread poverty. Since 1982, the Salesians have been a vital presence in the country, offering education and pastoral care as pathways to a better future. In the rural community of Milenaka, a Salesian primary school currently serves 400 students — but the absence of a secondary school means many are unable to continue their education. The construction of new classrooms would bridge this gap, ensuring students can pursue higher levels of learning and greater opportunities. Please note – even partial funding would be a Godsend for these students.  The total cost to construct a one-floor building with eight classrooms in Milenaka, equipped with desks and blackboards = $43,000.00

The Salesians in Burundi are committed to improving the lives of the children at the Don Bosco Kagwema Center by providing them with access to clean, safe and hygienic sanitation facilities. This vital project will fund the construction of restroom facilities, including the building structure, a septic system, toilets and a 10,000-liter rainwater catchment tank. These improvements will ensure that the 400 vulnerable boys and girls who attend the Center have access to sanitary bathroom facilities — contributing to their overall well-being and dignity. The current hostel facilities at St. Jude’s Science and Technical College are in a state of severe disrepair and lack essential furniture necessary to support the health, safety and overall well-being of the students. This project aims to address these critical needs: 1. Renovate 2 hostel buildings — Building A to serve 600 boys, and Building B to serve 200 girls 2. Provide 100 bunk beds to improve the sleeping and living conditions of the students 3. Improve access to clean water and sanitation facilities within the 2 hostel buildings, ensuring a healthy living environment This project is located in Vandeikya, Benue State, Nigeria. Rehabilitate and create a community “green space.” Situated within the historic grounds of a Salesian Monastery, this area will be a family-friendly gathering place for children to play and socialize. The project plans include installing a protective gate, adequate lighting, video cameras and on-site security guards to keep the children safe.   This project is located at the Cremisan Monastery in Israel, on the border between Jerusalem and the West Bank. The total cost to upgrade the grounds and install a security system and hire security = $52,458.00

In this remote, impoverished diocese of Equatorial Guinea, there are several parishes where the population lives without safe drinking water. The Salesians hope to alleviate this crisis, increase sanitation, improve the health of children, and supply clean drinking water by constructing wells and cisterns in 18 rural sites. Please note – even partial funding for this project would be welcome. There are opportunities to fund individual wells at each of the 18 locations. This Salesian-run home is for street children and has recently been ear-marked to be a shelter for children who have been orphaned or homeless due to the Covid-19 global pandemic. The Salesians seek funding to maintain the home so they can continue to provide safe shelter, daily meals, medical aid, and counseling. Funds are also needed to repair the plumbing and update the electrical system in the facility, as well as compensate staff who cook, clean and drive two vehicles to transport the children. This project is located at the Ekalavya Children’s Home in Ravulapalem, Andhra Pradesh, India. The total cost to provide staffing, tuition, counseling, food and medical expenses, transport vehicles and to maintain and repair the home = $19,426.44

The Salesians established Snehalaya Children’s Home which rescues poor and abandoned boys, and provides them with a safe, loving home. In addition they provide medical attention, nutrition, education and counseling to help them grow into responsible, independent citizens. This project seeks funds to maintain the home and continue its programs. This project is located at the Snehalaya Children’s Home in Guwahati, Assam, India. Total cost to provide housing, food, schooling, counseling and medical care for 30 boys for one year = $21,952.00

The Don Bosco Youth Center is a safe, loving home which provides vocational training for vulnerable youth. The sports field was dangerous and unsuitable for athletic activities. The Salesians have raised most of the funds needed to replace the field through local efforts and are seeking help to complete the project. The new field will benefit students and the community. This project is located at the Don Bosco Youth Center in Lviv, Ukraine. To complete construction of the sports field = $22,000.00
