A New Open Hall for Students in India
Inclement weather frequently disrupted outdoor activities at the Don Bosco Secondary School in Tamil Nadu, India. But now students and staff have a safe place to assemble thanks to a covered multi-purpose open hall funded by Salesian Missions and made possible by caring friends like you.
“Because of limited space, students often had to stand outside during assemblies. When the weather turned bad, they had to run for cover in their classrooms,” explained Father Michael Conway, Director of Salesian Missions.
The open hall is a welcome addition to a school that serves hundreds of youth from nearby villages who are among the poorest and most desperate in India. The school is a safe haven for students to escape the day-to-day grind of their impoverished lives. It’s a place where they receive a quality education, eat healthy meals, engage in sports and other activities with their friends, and interact with school staff.
By having their basic needs met, students are better able to excel in their studies. “Education is the best way out of poverty,” reminds Fr. Mike. “Our focus on teaching youth valuable skills and life lessons helps ensure they have what it takes to become productive members of society.”
The new multi-purpose space at the Don Bosco Secondary School is just one more example of how your generosity is providing hope and opportunity for suffering boys and girls who need it most.
